Chi Gold
Cellist
Trained as a classical cellist in Japan, Chi Gold graduated from the Cello Department of the Tokyo University of the Arts Music High School and completed the Diploma Course in Cello Performance at Toho Gakuen University.
She studied under Hirofumi Kanno, Third Prize winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition, Takayuki Miki, who has served as a jury member of the same competition, and Sumiko Kurata, who graduated at the top of her class from the Paris Conservatoire and belongs to the French cello lineage stemming directly from Paul Tortelier, one of the most influential cellists of the 20th century.
In her teenage years, she experienced a life-altering accident that resulted in severe nerve paralysis. After a long recovery, she made a remarkable return to performance—an experience that profoundly reshaped her artistic perspective.
Now based in New York, she develops healing live performances using the resonance and frequencies of the cello, while also expanding her practice beyond classical music into painting, sculpture, and voice.
Her work moves fluidly across genres, integrating classical technique, contemporary sound, and embodied awareness.
